Just gotta buy blood bags and play around with the combos. You can get away with not using disciplines whilst still being a melee character. I'm not really into melee, brawl is more my thing. It's true, Thaumaturgy should not be neglected even if it's OP - It's actually really fun to use. Tremere is basically easy mode, no matter what you choose. Use Blood shield for close combat, and Blood purge for maximum effect, then smash them while they're puking.
Tremere can get away with pretty much anything as long as you max out Thaumaturgy. Tremere are all around really good but they aren't really built for melee out the gate.
